How it goes

Half a draw game, half a shared-middle game. You're dealt five cards, and a shared middle goes face up in three stages, three cards, then one, then one, with a round of offers between each. After the first three shared cards you get one swap of any number of your cards. The pool splits in two. Half goes to the best five-card hand from your five alone. Half goes to the best hand made from exactly two of yours with three from the middle, which is how Omaha reads a hand. One hand can take both halves, and that's the hand you build toward through the swap.

A good hand

Two pair or better in hand that also connects with the middle. The five-alone half rewards a made hand, the middle half rewards the same cards fitting the shared ones, and the swap is your one chance to make your five serve both. You want cards that already make a hand and share ranks or suits with what's showing. A hand that only stands alone is only half a hand here.

The usual mistake

Forgetting the middle. A strong five-card hand that does nothing with the shared cards wins half the pool at most, while the player who fits both halves is chasing everything you put in. Before you swap, look at the middle as hard as at your own cards, and keep the ones that can count twice.
